What to Expect During Your First Pistol Lesson
One of the biggest reasons women hesitate to sign up for firearm training is simple:
They don’t know what to expect.
And honestly? That’s completely normal.
Most women, are not going to sign up for something unfamiliar unless they know exactly how it works, what they will be doing, or they have a friend going with them. When something is new it can tend to be uncomfortable.
That’s one of the reasons I am so passionate about beginner firearm training for women — because I want you to feel comfortable BEFORE you ever step onto the range.
The good news?
You do NOT need experience.
You do NOT need your own pistol.
And you definitely do NOT need to “already know what you’re doing.”
My goal is to make firearm instruction approachable, supportive, and easy to understand from the very beginning.
This blog is to give you a heads up on what to expect during your session with me.
We Start in the Classroom First
Before we ever head to the shooting range, we start in a classroom setting.
Why?
Because everything you do on the range is first taught in the comfort of the classroom.
This gives you the chance to slow down, ask questions, and fully understand what you are learning before live fire is introduced.
During the classroom portion, we cover:
Firearm safety fundamentals
Parts of the pistol and how they function
How to safely operate a handgun
Loading and unloading procedures
Proper grip and stance
Sight alignment and trigger control
Range safety expectations
What to expect during live fire practice
For many women, this is where confidence starts to build.
The classroom setting is also a GREAT place to ask those lingering questions you may feel nervous asking in front of others. Trust me — if you’re wondering it, someone else probably is too.
Then We Head to the Range
Once you feel comfortable with the basics, we move into range time where we apply what you learned in the classroom.
This is where we take everything you learned in the classroom and implement it in the range, while adding:
Accuracy drills
Confidence-building exercises
Further coaching and instruction
REMIND YOURSELF
You are not expected to be perfect.
You are there to LEARN.
Don’t have a pistol or any gear?
Most shooting ranges have pistols available to rent, and eye and ear protection can be provided if needed.
You can absolutely show up with zero gear and zero experience.
Learn Solo or Bring Your Bestie
Some women prefer learning one-on-one in a private setting, while others feel more comfortable bringing a friend along - same experience just enhance it with having familiar face.
That’s why I offer:
If group settings feel intimidating, and you would rather learn on your own, private instruction is an AMAZING place to start. Every session is tailored to your comfort level, pace, and personal goals.
Your First Lesson Should Feel Supportive — Not Intimidating
You do not need to prove yourself before signing up.
You just need to start.
My goal is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where women can safely learn firearm fundamentals, ask questions without judgment, and build confidence at their own pace.
Because every experienced shooter was once a beginner too. 💛
